Frequently Asked Questions
About Sound Baths, Sound Healing & Sound Meditation
What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is a restorative, meditative experience where you lie down and are surrounded by gentle, resonant sound. At The Conduit, we create this experience using crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and other carefully chosen instruments that encourage the mind to settle and the body to soften.
Rather than guiding with spoken meditation, we let the sound do the work. The tones build a calming atmosphere that naturally helps you shift into a quieter, more grounded state.
What does a sound bath do for your body?
Sound baths can support the nervous system, ease tension, and help interrupt stress patterns that build up over time. Many people leave feeling lighter — sometimes clearer, sometimes deeply rested — and often with improved sleep or reduced anxiety in the days that follow.
The vibration of the instruments can help your body move out of “fight or flight” mode and into a more balanced state where healing and restoration feel possible.
How is sound healing different from a sound bath?
The terms are often used together. A sound bath is typically a group sound meditation, while sound healing may also refer to one-on-one sessions or more targeted vibrational work.
At The Conduit, our group sound baths offer many of the same benefits in a shared setting, making sound meditation accessible to anyone who wants calm, clarity, or a moment to reconnect with themselves.

Yes. The Conduit leads monthly sound meditation events throughout Connecticut, including Hartford County, central Connecticut, and shoreline communities.
We partner with established studios so participants can enjoy a consistent, welcoming space wherever they join us.
-
Most guests bring:
A yoga mat
A blanket or two
A pillow or bolster
Comfortable clothing
Water
The more supported you feel, the deeper the experience. Extra blankets or props are always welcome. Some of our partner studios do offer props. You can always text us for guidance if you have special needs or requests.

You’ll settle into a comfortable position while the instruments are played in a slow, intentional way. There’s nothing you need to do — simply rest and listen.
Sessions generally last 60–90 minutes. Some people drift into deep relaxation, while others feel emotional release, clarity, or insight. Every experience is unique person to person, and, what you experience one time, will likely shift in the next session - and all experiences have value and purpose.

Sound baths are designed to be gentle and supportive. If you're sensitive to sound or navigating anxiety, you may want to:
Let us know before the session so we can assist you
Choose a spot where you feel comfortable - maybe away from the musicians’ stations
Bring extra blankets or comfort items
Sit upright if lying down feels too intense
Many people who struggle with anxiety find sound meditation grounding and helpful.
